Built in 1939, this Camberwell residence in Melbourne has been meticulously restored to it's original glory and as well, renovated to suit the needs of a present day family. The Gardens of Steel brief was broad but after a tour of this magnificent dwelling our direction became clear... The Steel Pergola was hand painted in 'Ironbark', beautifully complementing the years of Lichen on the old slate roof. |

By the clients own admission "The back of the house was uninspiring and a bit school like". The pergola breaks the straight back wall and now beautifully defines a delightful family and entertainment area. To the owners credit, their choice was Rusted Mild Steel and Rusted Corten Steel laser cut brackets, reflecting existing timber detail of the architecture. The owners are passionate about their garden; vegetables plots, fruit trees, potted plants and gentle climbers, already growing on their ever evolving Rusted Steel Pergola. |

The paving and kidney shaped pool called for curves. The lintel and battens were curved and fanned to compliment these existing features. They also dramatically announce the arrival of the visitors/guests into the central area of entertainment. |

Sweeping curved architecture and an exposed existing galvanised beam provided inspiration for this Steel Pergola in Perth. The lintels were locked together on the same plane with the rafters radiating from the galvanised beam. The curved battens provided drama to the area and complimented beautifully the curved masonry. All in galvanised steel - and what a joy in the evening light! |

The wonderful properties of steel are fully evident in this Essendon family and entertainment area Metal Pergola. The material's strength, fine aesthetics and the delicate beauty are all achievable with laser cut steel. The four support legs were set over a small area to compliment the existing paving. The rafters were cantilevered over existing steps, emphasising direction and creating a contemporary edge to the concept. The suspended laser cut roof panel from Cutout, adds brilliantly to light entering the area and provides a delightful feature. |

Finally as a central feature in the landscape, a Steel Arbour over a low circular rock wall. All steel was allowed to rust thoroughly and then treated, resulting in a triumphant relationship between the structures and the landscape. | ![]() |
